RollstuhlRouting.de is an open route planner of the University of Heidelberg for people with mobility impairments. It uses free data of OpenStreetMap. In contrast to regular route planners, additional attributes of paths, such as surface condition, steepness or high curbsides, can be taken into consideration. Everyone can enter this data into OpenStreetMap and therefore improve the wheelchair-accessible route planning. Thereby the navigation to searched-for (hopefully wheelchair-accessible) places shall be supported.
Der The German Wheelchair Sports Association extensively supports the area of sports and mobility of impaired people. Over 9,000 active athletes in wheelchairs of over 300 clubs with 24 different wheelchair sports belong to the association. The wheelchair sport is not only a motivating offer for impaired people to exercise, play and compete but also for people who only sit in wheelchairs when engaging in sport activities.
